MILITARY CULTURE TRAINING FOR EVERYONE

Become Veteran Ready to better understand, support, and show up for Veterans.

Veterans live, work, learn, and receive care in every community.

Yet most of us were never taught how military culture shapes identity, communication, trust, or help-seeking.

The Veteran Ready Certificate Program is a short, practical training experience designed to change that.

In about two hours, you’ll gain the foundational understanding and tools needed to support Veterans and military families with more confidence—at work, at home, and in your community.

Why military culture training matters—for everyone

Culture shapes how we communicate, how we seek help, and how we build trust.

When we understand another person’s culture, we’re better equipped to connect, listen, and respond in ways that are respectful and effective.

The military-connected community shares a distinct culture rooted in service, leadership, accountability, and commitment to mission and team.

Service members take an oath that becomes part of their identity—one that often stays with them when they transition to civilian life. Without cultural understanding, even well-intentioned interactions can miss the mark, leaving Veterans and families feeling disconnected or misunderstood.

Military culture training helps bridge that divide.

When communities understand military culture:

  • Veterans feel seen, respected, and understood
  • Conversations feel more natural and human
  • Trust builds more quickly across civilian–military experiences
  • Early signs of stress or struggle are recognized sooner
  • Support feels timely, appropriate, and connected

David T. Vandewater
CEO, Summit BHC

"It shows up every day. I was recently in one of our facilities and spoke with an active duty service member and a Veteran. Because of the training I have received, I knew what questions to ask and how to approach the conversation."

"This training is important enough that it is not just for clinicians. Leadership needs to understand it as well. Early recognition and knowing the right things to say at the right time can make a real difference. It helps people feel seen and understood at the very start of their recovery process.”

You should become Veteran Ready if:

  • You interact with Veterans or military families in any setting
  • You want to support Veterans without feeling unsure or saying the wrong thing
  • You want to go beyond memorizing facts about the military to truly understand what it means to serve
  • You work, volunteer, or live in a community with Veterans
  • You believe communities play a role in wellbeing and safety
  • You want to show your gratitude for their service

What It Means To Be Veteran Ready

Being Veteran Ready doesn’t mean having all the answers.

It means understanding the basics of military culture and knowing the right questions to ask (and to avoid).

It means communicating with respect and curiosity, and creating environments where Veterans feel seen and supported.

It means having the humility to know what you don't know about a Veteran's experience. This certificate program gives you that foundation.
