Lorie Van Tilburg is a licensed clinical social worker by training and the founder and former Executive Director of Southern Caregiver Resource Center (SCRC). Established in 1987 as a private non-profit 501c3, SCRC continues to be the leading provider of comprehensive support services to family caregivers in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Under Lorie’s leadership, the organization helps over 30,000 families annually who are caring for their frail older relatives or adults with brain impairments like stroke, head trauma, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. Services include information & referral, assessments, long-term care planning and case management, individualized short-term caregiver counseling, caregiver and professional training, community education and outreach, professionally facilitated support groups, legal and financial consultation, and respite services. SCRC also offers specialized evidence-based programs such as our six-session counseling program, our REACH (Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer’s Caregiver Health) program targeting Spanish language Latino family caregivers, and Operation Family Caregiver (RCI’s signature military caregiver program). These are the services proven to help families remain healthy, employed and keep their loved ones safe. Services are provided by highly trained professional staff and most are available in Spanish and English.
